BET salutes Women In Hip Hop

BET is preparing to air its first music documentary dedicated soley to women in Hip-Hop on August 30th at 10pm. The show will be titled My Mic Sounds Nice: A Truth About Women and Hip-Hop.” Directed by Ava DuVernay, this powerful documentary will focus on the importance and impact women of Hip-Hop has had on this industry and how they changed this music genre since 1970s.

 President of Music Programming and Specials, Stephen Hill, has released a statement saying: “This is a story that could not be told by one voice. It required a chorus. And although this story is comprehensive, it is still likely one of many truths about the role of women in Hip-Hop.”

 

The documentary plans to highlight not only the most influential females in the rap game, but they will also speak with executive producers and various journalists, a wide number of rappers will be featured as well. Some of the most notable segments will include Mc Lyte, Rah Digga, Eve, Missy Elliott, Trina, Jermaine Dupri, Russell Simmons, Kevin Liles, and ?uestlove and more.

 

we are not sure if you have seen any of these commericials floating around, in a preview, a confident Missy Elliott claims that: “The future of the female emcee is that we ain’t going nowhere. […] As long as I live, we ain’t going nowhere. And even after me, we still ain’t going nowhere.”

 

CMNY is looking forward to seeing this documentary, Being able to go back and remember when, MC Lyte rocked Curious George, Queen Latifah dropped ladies first, and hopefully  FOXY Brown and Lil Kim in their prime. This should not only be informational but motivational for feemcees across the nation......
